The Ghost in the System
The guy in the corner of the café, always on his laptop while the rest of the room moves around him. He doesn’t talk much, but he notices everything. There’s something distant about him, like part of him is somewhere else entirely, but when it matters, he’s present in the ways that count. Overprotective without saying it out loud, he doesn’t ask for control, he simply takes it when the moment calls for it. Not loud, not obvious, but when things start to fall apart, Echo is already there.
Lock & Key Classification
Classification: Lock
Bonded: Bonded
Role in System: Codeweaver
Power
Echo can split his consciousness into digital systems, allowing him to process multiple streams at once, control devices remotely, and exist partially outside his physical body. Touching a screen, device, or even connecting to a nearby signal lets him read or override technology.
The more he divides his attention, the more efficient he becomes… but the less grounded he is in his physical self. Without stabilisation, Echo risks losing track of where he ends and the system begins.
Jamming state
When Echo begins to jam, the line between his body and the digital world starts to break down. Part of him remains present, while the rest drifts into systems around him. He may stop responding entirely, or answer with delays, repeated phrases, or glitched speech.
Physical symptoms include:
-
Fingers twitching as if typing on an invisible interface
-
Eyes unfocusing or flickering with pixel-like light
-
Sudden stillness, followed by sharp, disjointed movements
Technology around him reacts immediately:
-
Screens flicker, freeze, or loop
-
Audio distorts or echoes
-
Devices may shut down or overload completely
In severe cases, Echo loses connection to his physical body almost entirely—
leading to:
-
Nosebleeds
-
Collapse or unconsciousness
-
Full digital blackout in the surrounding area
Without grounding, he risks getting “stuck” between states like a system running without a stable host.
Awareness Level
Echo is fully aware he is a Lock. He understands how his power works on a technical level, but struggles with its emotional triggers. He treats it like a system to manage rather than something to feel.
Lock Quirks
• Occasionally “zones out” mid-conversation, attention slipping into digital or internal space
• Fingers twitch subtly as if typing when thinking or stressed
• Loses track of time easily when interfacing or focused
• Nearby electronics may glitch slightly even when he’s calm

Quotes
- “Sorry, I was buffering. What were you saying again?”
- “I ghosted your security system on the way in. Thought I’d let you know.”
- “You stabilize the system. Doesn’t mean I’m dependent. Just efficient.”
- “You don’t need to understand it. Just don’t touch it.”
